Abu Dhabi, January 21, 2024: The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club is organizing the first round of the Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship, as part of the activities of the Abu Dhabi Marine Festival, whose activities begin on January 25 and continue until February 4, 2024, at the breakwater in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors. The festival includes 15 marine tournaments and activities, including traditional and modern tournaments and various marine activities.
The Grand Abu Dhabi Kingfishing Championship, the activities of the Abu Dhabi Marine Festival, will open with the launch of the tournament next Thursday and will extend for four days. More than 300 boats and boats were registered during the first hours of opening registration, and more than 400 boats and boats are expected to participate in the tournament, which is organized to stimulate... Young people are passionate about fishing in general, and kingfish in particular, as it coincides with the organization of the kingfishing season in Abu Dhabi, and to preserve this heritage that extends for decades, which grandparents and fathers have continued to practice during the kingfishing period every year.
The competitions of this tournament are characterized by strength and excitement, and in its past editions, it witnessed large participation from those interested and fishing enthusiasts. It also set record numbers in the weights of some of the fish that were caught, as well as in their selling prices.
For his part, Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Head of the Heritage Racing Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, confirmed that the Abu Dhabi Marine Festival is the largest open theater for the diversity of events and activities, as it includes heritage, traditional and modern sports, and multiple activities attractive to all groups.
He said: “The Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfishing Championship is an event that has its place among those interested in fishing in general, and kingfishing in particular. Since its inception, it has attracted hundreds of participants, who compete enthusiastically to win the crown.”
He added: "The Abu Dhabi Maritime Club is keen to contribute to the preservation of maritime heritage, through the efforts made in all the events and activities it organizes, and those in which it participates, because this is at the core of its work and goals, and we seek to continue these efforts to transfer this ancient heritage to generations."
On the other hand, the Abu Dhabi Women's Fishing Championship will also be held during the festival, which is expected to witness large participation due to its position on the agenda of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.
