The “Al Nouf Race” for 43-feet sailboats begins on Saturday in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, February 7, 2024: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club is organizing the “Al Nouf Race” for 43-foot sailboats next Saturday in Abu Dhabi, “depending on weather conditions.”
Registration has been opened to participate in the race, and it is expected that the number of participating sailboats will reach more than 100 sailboats.
The race starts from the East Saadiyat area for a distance of 18 nautical miles, towards the finish line in front of the headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The organization of the race is part of the club’s programs, activities, and events of the current season, which include many races of sailboats and heritage boats of all categories, to showcase the Emirati heritage and introduce its vocabulary, which contributes to strengthening efforts to preserve maritime heritage and transmit it to generations in all its details so that the nobility of the past continues into the present.
The club's work team completed the technical, logistical, and organizational arrangements, which accommodate the large participation that characterizes heritage races in general, and the 43-foot sailboat races in particular, which is the middle category of sailboats that attracts sailors for both youth and adults.
Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director of the Marine Sports Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, thanked the wise leadership for its interest in traditional sports and their races, and its great support for marine heritage, and to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, for His Highness’s generous patronage of the sailboat race. The 43-foot category doubles the value of the event and constitutes an incentive for the organizers and participants, including owners, captains, sailors, and race followers, as well as the fans who follow the competition between the racers from the starting point to the finish line.
Al Muhairi pointed out that the heritage races at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club receive special attention to consolidate the values of marine heritage, which is at the core of the club’s work and its goals in the sporting and societal aspects, and also the vocabulary it carries that constitutes an ideal model of the nature of marine life in the past.
