The Marwah 43 and Janana 22-foot sailboat race will be held next Friday and Saturday

Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra, February 21, 2024: The Al Dhafra Marine Festival, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, announced in its 15th session that next Friday will witness the organization of a Marawah race for 43-foot sailboats, as part of the races. Heritage events are included in the festival’s activities, while these races will conclude next Saturday with the Jinana Sailing Bearings Race for the 22-foot class.

The competitions for the two races will be held on the waters of Al Mughira Beach in the Al Dhafra region, and are organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.

The Marawah Sailing Race will start from the coast of Bozoum Island for a distance of 15 nautical miles towards the finish line on Al-Mughira Beach. The number of sailing boats that have registered to participate in it has reached 90 boats.

This type of race represents one of the important challenges for the sailors and sailors. The 43-foot category is the middle class through which young sailors pass to major races.

On Saturday, the Jinana race for 22-foot sailboats will be held, and it will start from Jinana Island for a distance of 7 nautical miles towards the finish line on Al-Mughira Beach. 55 sailors have registered to compete, and it represents the first step for young sailors on the ladder of heritage racing categories.

Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director of the Marine Sports Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, confirmed that the work team has completed its preparations to organize two races for sailing bearings in the 43-foot class, and a jinana in the 22-foot class, according to the highest standards in the organizational, logistical and technical aspects, and in line with the event, indicating Registration to participate witnessed a large turnout, which confirms the keenness of the owners, captains, and sailors to be present at the festival.

He said: “We at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club are pleased to organize heritage and modern marine races at various festivals and occasions in cooperation and coordination with the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, to achieve the common and desired goal, which is to enhance efforts to preserve heritage and pass it on to generations in all its details.”

He added that the interaction of the masses with the heritage races at the Al Dhafra Marine Festival left a tangible impact in encouraging the participants and raising their levels of enthusiasm, and also influenced the high technical levels presented by the Nokhatha and the sailors during the races that were held, expressing his hope that this interaction will continue in the remaining races within Festival agenda.
