Sheikh Hamdan sponsors the launch of the seventh historic Delma Race Festival

Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra Region, April 16, 2024: Under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the seventh edition of the historic 7th Delma Race Festival will begin on April 26 and continue until May 5. The island, located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, is expected to be an important occasion to celebrate heritage and marine sports. The details of the festival were revealed during a press conference at the Mohammed Khalaf Majlis in Abu Dhabi, during which the collaborative efforts made by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club in organizing this event were highlighted.
The press conference witnessed the presence of prominent figures, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the Modern Emirates Sailing and Rowing Federation, and Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director of the Marine Sports Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. The organizing committee expressed its thanks to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his continuous support of the festival since its launch in 2017, stressing its importance to the Emirati community and lovers of maritime heritage.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan expressed the Union’s pride in being part of this major maritime event. He pointed out the festival's role in promoting traditional and modern marine sports, which reflects the leadership's commitment to preserving marine heritage and passing it on through generations. This initiative is in line with the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to spread awareness of the value of maritime heritage.
Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi shared his thoughts on the historic Delma Race, which is a major gathering of sailors and celebrates Emirati maritime heritage. He pointed out that this year's edition will witness major modifications that focus on the safety and security of participants. The exact date of the race will be announced soon, with an information meeting planned for the racers on Dalma Island to discuss the rules and regulations of the competition.
Abdullah Butti Al Qubaisi spoke about the festival’s wide lineup, which includes the prestigious 60-foot sailboat race, and other traditional and modern marine, beach, and sporting competitions. With more than 400 prizes totaling more than AED 32 million, participants can look forward to a variety of events including rowing boat races, stand-up paddling, fishing tournaments, and many sporting competitions.
The festival also caters to people of determination through specific races designed for them, and hosts competitions for talented individuals in photography, video, and drawing. In addition, a popular market extending over an area of 25,000 square meters will include sales outlets for local artisans and artisans from Dalma Island, along with pavilions from sponsors and participating entities. Visitors can enjoy various heritage events, performances by Abu Dhabi folk arts groups, and a group of cultural competitions daily from four in the afternoon until ten at night.
This year's Dalma Racing Festival not only celebrates the UAE's maritime heritage but also fosters a sense of community among participants and visitors alike. With a rich array of activities and competitions, the festival is a testament to the UAE’s dedication to preserving its cultural heritage while embracing modern sporting disciplines.
