Hamdan bin Zayed awards winners of 7th Historic Dalma dhow race

Abu Dhabi Al Dafrah 24 May 2024: Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, today awarded the Hasheem 199 boat first place alongside other 7th Historic Dalma 60ft dhow race winners.

Organized by Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and Abu Dhabi Sailing Club, the race promotes maritime heritage and UAE National identity and traditions. It is the longest race in the UAE in terms of distance, stretching 68 nautical miles (125km), starting from Dalma Island to Al Mugheirah Corniche beach, passing through numerous islands.

Sheikh Hamdan praised the role of the race in promoting maritime heritage and UAE national identity and traditions.

Attracting more than 3,000 sailors aboard 122 dhows to compete for an AED30 million prize pool, the event consolidates marine races' importance as a key contributor to preserving the UAE's cultural heritage.
