Registration is closed to participate in the Ghanada race for 60-foot sailboats

Abu Dhabi, June 6, 2024: Registration for the 60-foot Ghannadha Dhow Race, organized by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, closed today, Thursday. The race is scheduled to commence the day after tomorrow, Saturday, as part of the club's heritage race program.

The race's organizing committee has given approval for the participation of the 90 registered dhows since the opening of registration last Thursday. These dhows will embark on a challenging 25-nautical mile journey, commencing near Khalifa Port and culminating at the finish line in front of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club headquarters on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The organizing committee has meticulously verified the technical aspects of the dhows, ensuring alignment with the technical amendments introduced during the historic Dalma Festival race. They have also overseen the implementation of logistical and administrative arrangements for the race.

Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Head of Heritage Sports at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, has commended the substantial turnout to partake in the race, with 90 dhows confirming their presence in the event. He acknowledged the excellent cooperation from owners and captains during the registration process and urged everyone to prepare their dhows according to the newly approved technical specifications.

Al Rumaithi anticipates that the Ghanada race will feature high speeds and fierce competition, with the participation of an esteemed group of champions boasting a remarkable record of achievements in major races within this category.
