International Participation Shines as 117 Sailors Conclude the Fourth Station of the UAE Modern Sailing Championship in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, September 30, 2024: Yesterday evening witnessed the fourth round of the UAE Modern Sailing Championship in the capital, Abu Dhabi, with 117 sailors participating across the different categories of the championship, including the sailing category for people of determination. There was also strong international participation from Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The two-day competition concluded with Edward West winning the Optimist Junior category, followed by Cornelia Bajak in second place, and Jean-Luc Herv in third, all from Dubai Offshore Sailing Club. In the Optimist Girls category, Cornelia Bajak took first place, Tong Iksania from Singapore came second, and Madya Al-Niyadi from the Abu Dhabi Maritime Sports Academy placed third. Edward West also secured first place in the Optimist General category, with Simon Hristov from the Abu Dhabi Academy in second place and Cornelia Bajak, who stood on the podium three times in different categories, in third place.
In the ILCA 4 Girls category, Marwa Al-Hammadi from Abu Dhabi Academy claimed first place, followed by Eva Hardy from Dubai Offshore in second, and Al-Yazia Al-Hammadi from Abu Dhabi Academy in third. In the ILCA 4 General category, Marwa Al-Hammadi took first place, followed by Mohammed Al-Owais from Al-Hamriya Club in second, and Thani Shams from Qatar in third.
In the ILCA 6 Girls category, Philip Van from Dubai Offshore won first place, followed by Cairnita Binti Mohd from Malaysia in second, and Eva Wisherly from Dubai Offshore in third. In the ILCA 6 General category, Philip Van took first place, followed by Othman Al-Hammadi in second, and Mohammed Al-Hammadi from Abu Dhabi Academy in third.
In the ILCA 7 Grand Master category, Richard Wood took first place, followed by John Carpenter in second, and Rob McLachlan in third, all from The Club. In the ILCA Master category, John Woolcock came first, followed by Adel Khalid from Al-Hamriya Club in second, and Manaf Al-Wuhaib from Kuwait in third. In the ILCA 7 General category, Joost Van Anholt took first place, followed by John Woolcock in second, and Hamza Ismail Al Ali from the Abu Dhabi Maritime Sports Academy in third.
In the Sailing for People of Determination category, Ghaila Ali Hussein secured first place in the Laser Bahia Level 2, followed by Alia Abdullah Al Muhairi in second, and Omar Al-Hammadi in third, with Mohammed Al-Zubaidi in fourth. In the Laser Bahia Level 3, Omar Al-Hammadi and Hamad Al-Zubaidi took first place, followed by Salman Al-Hammadi and Saleh Fahd in second, and Khalid Al-Ali and Zayed Ahmed in third, while Youssef Al-Jowader and Abdullah Sultan finished fourth, and Mohammed Al-Junaibi and Nasser Al-Mehri in fifth.
The winners were honored at the conclusion by H.E. Salem Al Rumaithi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, H.E. Abdullah Al Hamidan, Secretary General of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, H.E. Mohammed Al Obeidli, Secretary General of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, and Nasser Al Dhaheri, Acting Director of Marine Sports, along with Hassan Jassim, Secretary General of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation.
