Honoring the Winners of the Qaffay Dhow Sailing Race at the Yasat Festival

Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra, November 9, 2024: Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Marine Sports Federation and Chairman of the Board of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club crowned the winners of the Qaffay Dhow Sailing Race (22-foot category) held today over a distance of 7 nautical miles. The race saw the participation of 65 dhows from various emirates of the UAE, carrying a total of 260 sailors.

The event was part of the second edition of the Yasat Festival, held on the shores of the city of Sila in the Al Dhafra region. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, the festival will conclude tomorrow, Sunday.

First place in the race was claimed by the dhow Dahes  (No. 18), captained by Abdulrahman Abdullah Mohammed Al Marzouqi. Second place went to the dhow Zalzal (No. 125), captained by Abdullah Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, while third place was secured by the dhow Zalzal  (No. 25), captained by Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi.

Valuable prizes totaling AED 546,000 were awarded to the winners, top-ranked competitors, and participants in the race.

The race represents an important milestone for young sailors and serves as the first step in their journey into traditional dhow sailing competitions.
