Abu Dhabi, December 16, 2024: Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club has announced the opening of registration for the "Abu Al Abyad" Dhow Sailing Race (60ft category), scheduled to take place next Saturday.  

This race is one of the most significant heritage events celebrating the UAE’s maritime legacy, showcasing the leadership’s commitment to preserving national identity and fostering traditional practices across generations, thereby reinforcing the values of belonging and connection to the nation’s rich past.  

Reviving Maritime Heritage
The "Abu Al Abyad" Dhow Sailing Race provides an exceptional annual platform that brings together dhow captains and sailors from various emirates in a unique competitive atmosphere. It embodies the spirit of solidarity and pride in the UAE’s maritime traditions. The 60ft dhows are iconic symbols of the ancestors' heritage, who relied on these vessels for their livelihood and transportation.  

The Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club emphasized that the race is part of its continuous efforts to revive the national heritage and raise awareness of its importance among different segments of society, particularly the youth. These events aim to connect young generations with their roots and highlight the significance of traditional maritime sports.  

Registration and Organizational Details
The club has invited all dhow captains and sailors interested in participating to register promptly through the designated platforms. Registration is currently open and will remain available until shortly before the race. The club stressed the importance of adhering to the rules and guidelines to ensure the safety of all participants and the smooth execution of the event, including meeting all registration requirements and providing the necessary equipment.
