"Abu Dhabi Marine Sports" announces the details of the "Yas" 22-ft Dhow Sailing Race.

Abu Dhabi, January 7, 2024: Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club has officially announced the Yas 22-ft Dhow Sailing Race**, scheduled to take place on January 11 as part of the first round of the new marine racing season.  

This race marks the continuation of the club’s activities in 2025 and is expected to witness intense competition among participants, given the challenges associated with this category of traditional maritime races.  

In its statement today, the club confirmed that registration for the race is now open and will remain available until Thursday, the day before the race. The registration window will officially close at 3:00 PM.  

The event is being organized as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to promote traditional dhow sailing, preserve the Emirati maritime heritage, and honor the rich history and legacy of the forefathers.  

Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Head of Traditional Races at Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, emphasized that launching this race marks the true beginning of an exciting and challenging new season for marine sports. He highlighted that the race aims to support traditional sports, uphold dhow sailing as a vital symbol of national identity, and provide a fair competitive environment that encourages young Emiratis to develop their skills and take on new challenges in this distinguished field.  

The 22-ft dhow sailing race holds significant importance in fostering a strong connection between younger generations and their maritime heritage. It provides an opportunity for sailors to demonstrate their expertise in handling traditional dhows while preserving the authentic character of this unique racing category.
