"Zelzal 125" Crowned Champion of the Yas 22-ft Dhow Sailing Race

Abu Dhabi, January 12, 2024 – The dhow “Zelzal 125”, owned by Nokhatha Abdullah Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi**, claimed the title in the Yas 22-ft Dhow Sailing Race, organized by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. The race featured an intense competition among 76 dhows, with **380 sailors and nokhathas taking part in the first round of the new traditional maritime racing season, which includes various categories of heritage races.  

Securing second place was "Al Adeed 30", owned by Mohammed Rashid Al Rumaithi and captained by Nokhatha Hamad Rashid Al Rumaithi, while "Zelzal 25", owned by Nokhatha Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, finished in third place.  

The top winners were honored by Saif Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Race and Sports Events Committee at the club, alongside Nasser Al Dhaheri**, Acting Director of Marine Sports.  

Saif Saif Al Suwaidi congratulated the winners and extended his gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and cooperation, which contributed to the race’s success. He also commended the organizing team for ensuring a seamless and professional event**, enabling all competitors to showcase their best performances.  

He stated, “The young sailors demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and determination, showcasing their technical skills and passion for the sea. Their commitment to braving the waves with courage and resilience was truly inspiring.”  

He further emphasized, “At Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, we follow a strategic vision aimed at preserving the rich maritime heritage of our ancestors. Our goal is to strengthen the connection between young sailors and their cultural legacy while reinforcing national identity.”
