Marwah 43-ft Dhow Sailing Race Set to Launch Tomorrow as Part of Al Dhafra Marine Festival

Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra, February 15, 2025 – The Marwah 43-ft Dhow Sailing Race is set to take place tomorrow, Sunday, February 16, as part of the 16th edition of the Al Dhafra Marine Festival. The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, and is organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. The festival’s activities and competitions are being held at Al Mugheirah Beach in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi, and will continue until February 23.

A Premier Traditional Sailing Competition

The Marwah 43-ft Dhow Sailing Race is one of the most significant events in the series of heritage and traditional races that have been a hallmark of past festival editions. The race continues to attract a large number of participants, including elite nokhathas (skippers) and the most skilled sailors competing in this prestigious category.

Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Head of Traditional Races at Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, emphasized that the Al Dhafra Marine Festival serves as a unique platform for showcasing heritage activities in Abu Dhabi, particularly traditional maritime races. He highlighted the Marwah 43-ft Dhow Sailing Race as a key event within the festival’s diverse schedule of traditional races, providing a competitive opportunity for all participants to vie for valuable prizes.

He also praised the strong collaboration between Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority in supporting efforts to preserve and protect the UAE’s rich maritime heritage, ensuring that it is passed down to future generations.
