16th Al Dhafra Marine Festival Kicks Off on February 14 Under the Patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Al Dhafra, February 13, 2025 – Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the 16th edition of the Al Dhafra Marine Festival will commence tomorrow, Friday, February 14, and will continue until February 23 on Al Mugheirah Beach, Al Dhafra. The event is organized by Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.

Press Conference Highlights Key Festival Features

The organizing committee announced the details of this year’s edition in a press conference held at Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei’s Majlis, attended by:

  • Abdullah Butti Al Qubaisi, Acting Executive Director of the Heritage Awareness and Knowledge Sector at Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority
  • Nasser Al Dhaheri, Acting Director of Marine Sports at Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club

A Festival That Blends Heritage, Sports, and Community Engagement

Speaking on behalf of Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Zayed Sari Al Mazrouei, Head of Events at Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his continuous support for heritage and marine sports events.

"His patronage plays a vital role in preserving our maritime heritage and passing it on to future generations, ensuring that the legacy of our ancestors remains deeply rooted in our cultural identity," Al Mazrouei said.

He emphasized that the festival has become an anticipated annual event for marine sports enthusiasts, serving as a family-friendly, sporting, heritage, and tourism destination, while also showcasing the natural beauty of Al Dhafra.

Exciting Competitions with Major Prizes

The organizing committee has allocated a total prize pool of AED 7.49 million, distributed across 56 competitions, benefiting 1,670 participants.

The festival will feature a diverse lineup of marine and sports competitions, including:

  • Al Dhafra 40-ft Traditional Rowing Boat Race
  • Stand-Up Paddleboarding Race
  • Kite Surfing Races
  • Al Dhafra She’ri Fishing Championship
  • Carrom and Domino Competitions
  • Cycling and Running Races
  • Various other heritage and sports activities

Al Mazrouei noted that through these competitions and activities, the festival continues to fulfill its mission of reviving maritime heritage, educating the public about the importance of the UAE’s marine environment, and positioning Al Dhafra as a leading destination for marine and beach sports tourism.
