Under the patronage of Hamdan bin Zayed, the 8th Dalma Historical Race Festival kicks off in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, UAE – May 10, 2025: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the 8th Dalma Historical Race Festival will be held from May 16 to June 1, 2025, on Dalma Island in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region. The festival is organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

At the heart of the event is the Dalma Historical Dhow Sailing Race (60ft category) — the region’s longest traditional race, covering a distance of 68 nautical miles (125 km). The race starts from Dalma Island and passes through several historic natural islands, ending at Al Mugheirah beach, affirming its status as one of the most challenging and prestigious heritage races in the Arabian Gulf.

Festival activities take place every weekend (Friday to Sunday) and include cultural shows, traditional markets, water sports competitions, and family entertainment — all aimed at boosting tourism, preserving Emirati heritage, and stimulating the local economy.

The festival features a variety of events such as the Shaari Fishing Championship, traditional rowing races (40ft), stand-up paddle races, cycling, running, domino and carrom competitions, and traditional Emirati games. The accompanying heritage market offers crafts, local cuisine, and live performances, showcasing the rich maritime and island traditions of the UAE.

The Dalma Historical Race Festival reflects the UAE’s commitment to preserving maritime heritage, strengthening national identity, and passing on the legacy of the ancestors to future generations.
