San Nazzaro, Italy – May 14, 2025:Team Abu Dhabi has officially launched its training camp in San Nazzaro, Italy, as part of intensive preparations for the opening round of the F1H2O World Championship, set to take place this August on Lake Toba in Indonesia. The camp is led by the team’s technical director and powerboat racing legend Guido Cappellini, who is implementing a comprehensive program focused on both technical precision and tactical readiness to ensure peak performance from both boats and drivers.
The first day of training featured rigorous sessions, including propeller testing to select the optimal fit for each boat, and custom modifications to driver seats to enhance stability and comfort during races. The team also concentrated on performance in sharp turns, simulating real race scenarios to improve control and responsiveness.
Veteran Emirati driver Thani Al Qamzi is training aboard Boat No. 5, while newly joined Swedish driver Erik Stark is preparing on Boat No. 6, replacing American driver Shaun Torrente, who drove the boat in the 2024 season before moving to the Victory Team.
In a statement, Technical Director Guido Cappellini said:
"I’m very pleased with the commitment and performance shown today. Thani Al Qamzi and Erik Stark delivered a strong level during testing, and we’ve seen clear improvement in the boats’ handling after the adjustments. Our focus is on the fine details that make the difference at the finish line."
Emirati driver Thani Al Qamzi also highlighted the value of this phase:
"Training here in San Nazzaro is vital for fine-tuning every element before the season begins. I’ve felt a noticeable improvement in Boat No. 5’s responsiveness, and we’re working together with great energy and ambition."
The two-day camp is part of a strategic preparation plan designed to position Team Abu Dhabi as a strong title contender and reinforce its reputation as a leading force in the international powerboat racing arena.
