The organizing committee announces the date of the historic race: the 8th Dalma Race kicks off on Sunday, May 25.

UAE, Abu Dhabi – May 22, 2025: The Organizing Committee of the 8th Dalma Historic Festival Race for 60-foot traditional sailing dhows has announced that the race will officially commence next Sunday, May 25.
This largest and most prestigious event in the world of marine racing is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and is organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.
Dhow crews have already begun heading towards Dalma Island in preparation for the race, while the organizing committees have arrived early to welcome participants and finalize all logistical arrangements on the island.
The Dalma Historic Dhow Race, featuring 60-foot traditional boats, is considered the longest and most valuable of its kind. The race spans a total distance of 68 nautical miles, equivalent to 125 kilometers. It is also the only race that begins from the historic Dalma Island, passing through several other islands along its route: starting from Dalma Island, then Sir Bani Yas, followed by Ghasha Island, then Umm al-Kiram, Al-Fatayir, Al-Bazam, Al-Fiyy, Marawah, and finally Jananah Island before finishing on the shores of Al Mugheirah city.
