Thani Al Qamzi Concludes His Legendary 25-Year Career in F1 Powerboat Racing and Embarks on a New Challenge

Abu Dhabi, August 6, 2025 – The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club has announced that veteran Emirati champion Thani Al Qemzi will transition into a technical and administrative leadership role within the Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team. This marks a new chapter in his sporting journey, where he will pass on his extensive experience to the next generation of racers, following his decision to officially end his illustrious career in the F1H2O World Championship.

This transition is the culmination of a career that spanned over 25 years of challenges and achievements. Al Qemzi began his journey in 2000 and has since left an unforgettable mark on both Emirati and global water sports.

Since making his debut at the Sharjah Grand Prix in 2000, Thani Al Qemzi has proudly represented Team Abu Dhabi, participating in 159 international races, including 158 official starts. He secured 10 victories and stood on the podium 45 times, amassing a total of 1,030 points. He finished as runner-up in the overall championship standings in 2009 and 2021.

Throughout his career, Al Qemzi consistently ranked among the elite, finishing third in the world championship six times (2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2022) and fourth on three occasions (2010, 2017, 2019), reflecting his consistent performance and excellence over two decades.

Some of the most notable highlights of his career include his first victory at the Sharjah Grand Prix in 2008 and his final win at the Sardinia Grand Prix in Italy in 2022, proving his enduring competitiveness in one of the world’s most prestigious marine racing arenas, despite not clinching the world title.

Thani Al Qemzi is regarded as one of the most iconic figures in UAE powerboat racing and a cornerstone of Team Abu Dhabi’s success over the past two decades. He played a pivotal role in establishing the team as one of the world’s best and was instrumental in raising the UAE flag at top international events.

With the announcement of his retirement, Emirati sports bids farewell to one of its most honorable champions, who leaves behind a legacy that will inspire future generations—defined by determination, loyalty, and a passion for excellence.
