Abu Dhabi, UAE – September 9, 2025: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club will organize the Nouf Traditional Dhow Sailing Race for the 43-foot class, as part of its ongoing heritage race program aimed at preserving the UAE’s rich maritime traditions.
The race is scheduled to take place on either September 13 or 14, depending on weather conditions to ensure safe and suitable sailing conditions for participants and boats. The race will cover a distance of 17 nautical miles.
Traditional dhow races continue to attract youth who seek challenging and rewarding experiences, offering a festive atmosphere that celebrates the legacy of the forefathers. These races embody the values of Emirati seafaring heritage and promote intergenerational participation. The event will be held with full organizational readiness and adherence to the highest standards of safety and professionalism — reflecting the club’s commitment to preserving maritime heritage and strengthening national identity.
The organizing committee has begun laying out the technical, logistical, and operational plans, including setting the registration date through the club’s official website. Participants must comply with the race regulations and safety requirements for captains (nawakhidha) and sailors. The start point and sailing route will be selected to ensure a safe and competitive journey toward the finish line, located in front of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The 43-foot dhow class represents the intermediate level in traditional sailing competitions, bridging the gap between the 22-foot category, designated for youth and beginner sailors, and the 60-foot class, which stands as the premier and most competitive category in the traditional sailing calendar.
