“Toofan” wins the Nouf Traditional Dhow Sailing Race in the 43-foot category.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – September 13, 2025: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club concluded the Nouf Traditional Dhow Sailing Race in the 43-foot category. The race covered a distance of 20 nautical miles with the participation of 87 dhows, amid ideal maritime conditions that reflected the richness of Emirati heritage and the spirit of competition among multiple generations of captains and sailors.

The competition was fierce from the start line to the finish line along the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The dhow “Toofan”, owned by Hamad Rashid Al Rumaithi and captained by Ahmed Ismail Al Marzouqi, claimed first place following an outstanding performance. In second place was the dhow “Al Tabr”, owned by Rashid Mohammed Rashid bin Ghadeer and captained by Mohammed Saif Khalfan Al Muhairi. The third place went to the dhow “Zurich”, owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, captained by Khalifa Muhaireb Al Mazrouei.

At the conclusion of the race, winners were honored by Majid Atiq Al Muhairi, General Supervisor of the Nouf Race; Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Head of the Heritage Racing Department; and Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Head of the Academy at the club.

The organizing committee awarded cash prizes totaling 3.1 million AED, adding excitement and competitiveness until the very last moments.

A large crowd of heritage sports enthusiasts gathered at the Abu Dhabi Corniche to witness the competition, where the atmosphere blended the spirit of the sea with the legacy of ancestors. The maritime scene was adorned with white dhows, painting a beautiful picture that celebrates the past while honoring the present.

The organizing committee emphasized that the traditional dhow races serve as a true bridge between generations, reflecting the significant attention the wise leadership dedicates to preserving maritime heritage and strengthening national identity. It also highlights the commitment to providing youth with the opportunity to gain experience and participate in these authentic competitions.
