UAE, Abu Dhabi – September 28, 2025: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club will organize the Arela 60ft Dhow Sailing Race on October 3. The race is part of the club’s annual calendar of traditional heritage events, and marks the second round of this premier category, with more than 90 dhows expected to compete.

The race will cover a distance of 25 nautical miles, with registration opened early through the club’s official website, allowing dhow owners and captains to complete the necessary procedures and confirm their participation in the event.

The organizing committee has allocated valuable prize money totaling AED 4,238,000, to be distributed all the way to the 90th place finisher. This initiative is aimed at encouraging dhow owners, captains, and sailors to continue participating, and to contribute to preserving and passing down the UAE’s rich maritime heritage—a vital part of the nation’s history and cultural identity.

The committee is also providing all necessary details on technical and organizational arrangements, alongside safety guidelines for the captains and sailors. In addition, logistical support will be made available to ensure the dhows reach the starting point on time, with the race course clearly designated to guarantee a smooth and safe sail toward the finish line.

The 60ft dhow sailing races are considered the most prestigious among all heritage categories, owing to their long distances, valuable prizes, and the intensity of competition. The Arela Race, in particular, boasts a rich history spanning many years, during which these majestic dhows have painted traditional scenes at sea, admired by crowds of enthusiasts.
