Andersson Claims Shanghai GP Victory as Abu Dhabi’s Stark Battles to Fifth Place

Shanghai – October 4, 2025: The UIM F1H2O Grand Prix of Shanghai delivered another dramatic and action-packed race on the Huangpu River, with Sweden’s Jonas Andersson emerging victorious after a fierce battle with Victory Team’s American driver Shaun Torrente, who started from pole position but eventually had to settle for second place. Andersson’s triumph marked the 17th career Grand Prix win for the three-time World Champion and pushed him into the lead of the Drivers’ Championship by three points.

Abu Dhabi Team’s Erik Stark lined up on the front row in second place alongside Torrente. However, at the start he was immediately swallowed by the chasing pack, losing four positions to drop down to sixth place after the opening lap. Despite the setback, Stark held his ground through a chaotic race that featured multiple yellow-flag interruptions due to accidents, with four boats forced to retire. Maintaining his composure, Stark climbed back up to secure a solid fifth-place finish, just behind Estonia’s Stefan Arand of the Sharjah Team, who delivered a remarkable drive from 19th on the grid to 4th place.

Meanwhile, Stark’s teammate, Emirati driver Mansoor Al Mansoori, started from 15th position and managed to improve three places to finish in 12th, completing a challenging day for Abu Dhabi Team.

With Andersson overtaking Torrente after an intense wheel-to-wheel battle that nearly ended in contact, and with repeated race stoppages reshuffling the order, the Shanghai GP proved to be one of the most unpredictable races of the season.

Now, Team Abu Dhabi turns the page on Round 2, determined to review mistakes and return stronger as the championship moves to Round 3 in Zhengzhou, China, from October 10–12, 2025.
