Under the Patronage of Hamdan bin Zayed, the Ghanada 60ft Dhow Sailing Race Kicks Off on October 10.

Abu Dhabi, UAE – October 9, 2025: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club will organize the Ghanada 60ft Dhow Sailing Race on October 10, as part of its annual calendar of traditional and heritage races. This event represents the third round of the major 60ft category, with more than 90 dhows expected to participate.
The race will cover a distance of 25 nautical miles, and registration was opened early through the club’s official website to allow owners and skippers ample time to complete the necessary procedures and confirm their participation.
The organizing committee has allocated AED 4,238,000 in total prize money, distributed among the top 90 positions, as an incentive for dhow owners, captains, and sailors to continue participating and contributing to the preservation and transmission of the UAE’s rich maritime heritage—a cornerstone of the nation’s history and cultural identity.
The committee has also provided all technical and organizational details, including guidelines emphasizing the importance of safety equipment for participating captains and sailors, along with full logistical support to help dhows reach the starting point on time and ensure a safe and smooth race along the designated course.
The 60ft dhow races stand as the largest and most prestigious category in traditional sailing, known for their long distances, substantial prize values, and fierce competition. Among them, the Ghanada Race, with its deep-rooted legacy, remains one of the most anticipated events of the season, drawing elite owners, captains, and sailors who showcase captivating traditional maritime scenes that continue to attract fans and heritage sports enthusiasts alike.
