Honoring the Winners of the Barakah Traditional Dhow (Bwanish) Sailing Race

Al Sila’a, UAE – November 9, 2025: Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation, crowned the winners of the Barakah traditional bwanish sailing race, held over a distance of 5 nautical miles with the participation of 215 sailors aboard 43 boats.

The awarding ceremony was attended by Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Festivals and Cultural Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, along with a number of officials from the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, captains, sailors, and enthusiasts of traditional marine racing.

The race comes as part of the fifth edition of the Sila’a Marine Festival, taking place along the waterfront of Sila’a city in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi. The festival is organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, in strategic partnership with the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, and continues until November 16.

In terms of results, dhow Tufan (No. 21), owned by Hamad Rashid Mohammed Al Rumaithi and captained by Ahmed Ismail Ahmed Al Marzouqi, secured first place. Al Aqran (No. 65), owned by Mohammed Abdullah Ali Al Hosani and captained by Ismail Mohammed Al Hosani, came in second, while Nimran (No. 39), owned and captained by Omar Abdullah Mohammed Al Marzouqi, finished in third place.

The organizing committee allocated total prizes exceeding AED 400,000 for the winners, top finishers, and participants.
