Abu Dhabi, UAE — 8 December 2025: Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club has announced the opening of registration for the Yasat Dhow Sailing Race (60ft category) and the Qaffai 22ft Dhow Race, both held as part of the Yasat Marine Festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.
The dates for the races will be confirmed on one of the festival days, which will take place over two phases: 12–14 December and 19–21 December.
This year, the 60ft dhow race introduces a new course for the first time, starting from Dalma Island, passing by Yasat Island, and finishing in the Al Sila area, covering a total distance of 37 nautical miles (70 km). This makes it one of the long-distance races in the 60ft traditional dhow category, offering sailors and captains a valuable new experience.
The organizing committee explained that adopting this new route aligns with efforts to develop traditional marine racing and enhance its presence in historically significant maritime environments. It also aims to elevate competitiveness by introducing a longer distance that requires advanced traditional navigation skills. The committee noted that the strong demand for registration reflects the prominent standing of the race among sailors and captains.
The committee added: “The Yasat 60ft Dhow Sailing Race embodies our commitment to supporting and sustaining traditional marine heritage races by adopting longer sea routes that reflect the traditional navigation practices of the UAE’s seafaring communities. The new course from Dalma to Al Sila offers participants an advanced competitive experience and strengthens the presence of maritime heritage within national events.”
The final race date will be announced within the coming week after completing all technical and logistical preparations.
