Venezia, Italy 5 June 2023: The Abu Dhabi Formula 1 powerboat team achieved a new title in the world of Powerboat sports after the team won first place and the title of the seventieth edition of the classic Pavia-Venice powerboat race in the Po River, Italy. Which is the ancient race that extends from the city of Pavia to the finish line in the famous city of Venice.
The Abu Dhabi boat, led by team coach Guido Cappellini, won first place in the Formula 1 race title after excelling through the competition by being the first to start on the Po River, which embraced the challenge and continued driving throughout the race distance until reaching the finish line in Venice, ending an adventure that lasted 225 km—meters, with 110 boats and Jetski participating in the various racing categories.
Guido Cappellini won more than one title and cup in this race, which is first place in the overall race, first place in the Formula 1 category, and first place as the fastest boat between two points during the total distance of the race.
This race is considered an icon of the Italian marine races, as it started in 1952 to continue annually on the ancient river as one of the well-known races that are held along six Italian cities, beginning from the port town of Pavia, which is located in the north of Italy, and continuing its journey on the meandering river, finally reaching the city of Venice—the classic race.
Guido Cappellini achieved his ambition to earn the title of this race, which was a dream for him throughout his career as a racer and coach. Cappellini won the Formula 1 World Championship title ten times before retiring from participating and later devoting himself to training the cadres of the Abu Dhabi team, with whom he won titles and first positions in many championships competitions. Formula 1, Formula 2, and European races crown the various sporting achievements of the Abu Dhabi team by achieving the title of the classic Italian race for the first time.
The participation had months of preparation and preparation for the boat participating in the competition and unique practices for the powerboat to finish the race in the ideal and required time and to avoid the mistakes that occurred in the last version in which the team participated, as it had previously participated in the 2021 season in this race and got out of the race due to malfunction before he resumed the adventure again this season and was able to win the race title.
It is worth noting that many categories participated in the competition, most notably the Formula 1 category, the Cat Maran category, and Aquabike. The Formula 1 category stands out to be the strongest category of racing. The participation also included one hundred and ten boats and a motorcycle that spread dramatically on the river water page throughout the distance specified for the challenge.
For his part, Salem Al-Rumaithi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, congratulated Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Club, on the victory. Al-Rumaithi said that the plan to participate in the race began months ago in the team’s workshop in Italy to prepare the boat and equip it in a way that suits this race. He said: We previously participated in the 2021 season in the same competition, and the boat came out of the challenge, but this time it was equipped and prepared perfectly. It took months to prepare the boat, and Al-Rumaithi added: With the settings of this boat, it was expected to reach high speeds of 240 kilometers per hour. Indeed, Cappellini achieved the task and finished the race in first place; the highest rate he got was 212 during some periods of the race.
Salem Al-Rumaithi valued this achievement by being the longest in the world for this category, stressing that it is the beginning of achieving achievements and excellence for the Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team in its participation this summer, which will extend to the most potent championships in the categories of Formula 1, Formula 2 and water bikes as well.
